Description

This is the Binary star system RS Ophluchi.  It is a white dwarf orbiting a red giant.  About every 20 years of so it goes Nova.  A thermonuclear explosion occurs when the white dwarf strips enough gas from the red giant to cause and explosion.  This explosion was first observed by an astronomer in Ireland on August the 8th 2021.  So this just happened.  Well it actually happened about 5000 years ago as that is how far this star system is away from Earth in light years!  That means the Stone Age here on Earth, was just ending when this explosion occurred.  I imaged this on August 11th 2021.  This is 5, 180 sec images stacked.  Processed using Adobe Photoshop.
